Platform Conflicts
نویسنده
چکیده
.......Competition between platforms generates vendor behavior that sometimes aligns with the interests of users and application developers, and sometimes does not. For example, competition gives platform leaders incentives to improve the functionality of their code and improve the experiences of their users. It also leads them to make it difficult for users and programmers to switch between platforms. What else drives the incentives of participants within platforms? This column focuses on the interplay between platform leaders and other participants. Successful platforms create value, but success creates the seeds of conflicts. Those conflicts concern to whom the value flows. That is worthwhile to understand. These conflicts generate a variety of incentives, and related behavior arises in many contexts. It is a part of the landscape for most firms.

Fool's Gold? Developer Dilemmas in a Closed Mobile Application Market Platform
In this paper, we outline some potential conflicts that platform owners and software developers face in mobile application markets. Our arguments are based on comments captured in specialized online discussion forums, in which developers gather to share knowledge and experiences. The key findings indicate conflicts of interests, including 1) intra-platform competition, 2) discriminative promoti...
متن کاملUsing Cellular Automata to Investigate Pedestrian Conflicts with Vehicles in Crosswalk at Signalized Intersection
The operational efficiency and safety of pedestrian flows at intersections is an important aspect of urban traffic. Particularly, conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles in crosswalk are one of the most influential factors for intersection safety. This paper presents a cellular automata model that simulates pedestrian and vehicle crossing behaviors at signalized intersections. Through the si...
متن کاملDecompositional Calculation of Operating Guidelines Using Free Choice Conflicts
An operating guideline (OG) for a service S finitely characterizes the (possibly infinite) set of all services that can interact with S without deadlocks. This paper presents a decompositional approach to calculate an OG for a service whose underlying structure is acyclic and contains free-choice conflicts. This divide-and-conquer approach promises to be more efficient than the classical OG com...
متن کاملDefining Parallel Automata and their Conflicts
We define and classify a family of parallel automata (for Real-Time and Telecommunication modeling) in the context of a synchronous execution. First, an abstract form of Parallel automata is proposed as a generalization of various "Extended-Finite-statesMachines" found in the literature. Then, two implementable forms of Parallel Automata are presented : A "global Parallel automaton with private...
متن کاملThe Collective Strategies of Major Stakeholders in Land Expropriation: A Tripartite Game Analysis of Central Government, Local Governments, and Land-Lost Farmers
Land expropriation, during the rapid urbanization process in China, results in rural conflicts and presents barriers in sustainable development. Collective strategies of major stakeholders should be clearly understood for finding effective measures to cope with conflicts. However, the existing studies usually assume two types of stakeholders, which overlook the complicated practices as, at leas...
